How to choose a branding agency for your beauty brand

The right branding agency for a beauty brand is one that has already taken brands in your category to market, can show you what those brands look like on shelf and online today, and can tell you exactly what you walk away with when the project ends. Price matters less than most founders think. A project that gets you to launch with everything you need beats a cheaper identity you have to rebuild in a year.

Why a specialist beats a generalist in beauty

Beauty and wellness branding comes with category-specific problems that generalist agencies learn on your budget: regulatory copy that has to fit on a 30ml bottle, the difference between designing for retail shelf and designing for a D2C product page, ingredient storytelling that doesn't read like a chemistry textbook, packaging that photographs well because most of your customers will only ever see it on a screen.

An agency that has done this 20 or 30 times has answers to questions you haven't thought to ask yet. An agency that mostly does tech startups or restaurants will produce something that looks fine and works badly.

The test is simple: ask to see at least three beauty or wellness brands they have taken from zero to launch, and check whether those brands are still using the work. We have shipped over 40 beauty and wellness brands at Owlsome Studio, including Yepoda, now sold in Sephora.

Look at what happens after the identity is delivered

This is where most branding projects quietly fail. The agency hands over a logo, a color palette and a guidelines PDF, and leaves. Three weeks later the founder discovers that launching actually requires 50 or more visual assets: website imagery, social content, ad creatives, packshots, campaign photography. Producing those separately can easily cost more than the branding itself.

So before you sign, ask one question: what do I have in my hands on the last day of the project? You want a specific list with numbers, not "a complete brand identity". If the answer doesn't include launch-ready visuals, budget for them separately, because you will need them.

Questions to ask before signing

  • How many beauty or wellness brands have you launched, and which are live today?
  • What is the exact deliverables list, with asset counts?
  • Who actually works on my project, and who is my point of contact?
  • How many concept directions and revision rounds are included?
  • What does it cost to add packaging for one SKU later? For three?
  • What happens when I need new visuals two months after launch?

A good agency answers all six in one email without hedging. Vague answers now become scope arguments later.

What branding costs for a beauty brand: real numbers

Rough market ranges in 2026: a solo freelancer will build an identity for €1,000 to €3,000, a boutique studio typically charges €5,000 to €15,000, and larger agencies start around €25,000. The number itself tells you very little. What matters is what sits inside it.

A €3,000 identity that covers a logo and a PDF leaves you buying packaging design, launch visuals and content production on top, usually at hourly rates. By the time you are actually ready to sell something, the "cheap" option has cost more than the mid-range one. Compare total cost to launch, not the price of the first invoice.

For reference, our Brand + Launch Engine starts at €7,500 and takes 6 weeks: complete brand identity plus 50+ launch-ready visuals plus a trained AI visual system you can run yourself after handover. Packaging is €1,500 for the first SKU and €500 for each additional one.

Red flags

  • A portfolio full of concept work and redesigns of famous brands, with no live clients you can visit.
  • No defined process. "We explore until you're happy" sounds generous and means the project never ends.
  • A price quoted without a written scope. That price will grow.
  • Unlimited revisions. Nobody offers unlimited anything and stays in business; it means the limits are hidden somewhere else.
  • Nobody asks you hard questions about your product, margins or launch plan during the first call. An agency that only talks aesthetics is decorating, not branding.
